Exhibition at Stundars museum of crafts, co-exhibitor Terese Bast.
“Designer Petronella Nordman exhibits a collection of jackets inspired by the idea of a future globalised world, where different culture’s architecture, flora, fauna and languages meet.
The exhibition consists of jackets that mix, with the help of illustrations, applications and embroideries, typical Ostrobothnian elements with elements from other countries. What would a hybrid of the red rose and a Dandelion look like and how would the Whooper swan and the Chukar meet?
The most important thing in a globalised world is the communication between people. It is therefore up to the visitors to complete the exhibition by filling a jacket with their own language to let our thoughts meet.
The exhibition welcomes a globalised and multicultural future by showing our children how beautiful a union between countries can be.

During my exchange studies at Tama Art University in Tokyo, Japan, I did a research project on children's cultural experiences in Japan, focusing on costumes and clothing design. As a result, I designed a bag inspired by the Japanese symbolism, form and mindset. 渋 い (shibui) means subtle, organized and pure while 派 手 (hade) means the colorful, wild and loud language of the Japanese style. In order to reach an equilibrium one strives for 塩 梅 (anbai). The bag I designed and produced is based on this mindset. The bag is designed, produced and photographed by me.

Role play is an essential part of human development and most of our social and identity-building skills are defined in childhood, through role-play. The purpose of this project was to interpret the role play and imaginary play part of Alfons Åbergs everyday life theory into a wearable artefact of play that through role-play and social interaction enhances social development and empathy, stimulates imagination and encourages friendship.
Stick with me is a collection of apparel from which children can build their own crazy creatures where both role-play and social interaction can be achieved. It consists of vests, hats, shoes and a lot of attachable objects like horns, eyes and tentacles. There is also a big body that can either be attached to yourself or used as a separate creature. All objects and pieces are attached to each other with velcro and can easily be ripped of and moved.
Workshop about traditional clothing and children's cultural belonging in Japan. Arranged by Petronella Nordman at an international pree-school in Tokyo.
This project has its origins in my personal experience growing up as a “Third Culture Kid”. Third Culture Kids (TCK) are children raised in one or several different cultures than their parents for a significant part of their development years. The act of collecting stories and maintaining memories are crucial for a TCK’s identity.
Rootless roots presents a design solution that assists when communicating with new people and surroundings but also a tool for collecting your memories. A wearable diary or a physical Instagram account ready to be exhibited to your new friends.
